The answer is a 13” Gen 2 Galil ACE with a KNS piston and a suppressor OR a Rifle Dynamics Quick hatch (10-12” barrel) + can.

If you choose .300 black out, buy a Daniel Defense 10” SBR or similar. I say use a barrel > 10” if you plan shooting beyond 100 yards in either caliber.

Stay away from the Ruger mini series. Terrible optics mounting system, terrible magazines, poor accuracy. Get an AK or AR platform.

oh and I forgot to mention, the new CMMG Mk 47 looks pretty sweet as well. I played with one at my LGS, have not gotten to shoot it yet.
    Thanks for the suggestion.

The Mini probably isnt as durable as the Ace Gen 2 but it's lighter and as accurate. Optic mounting isn't terrible on the mini if you're using an RDS. Factory Mini mags are fine, but not very rust-resistant. I probably would enjoy the Galil, too. It costs $750 more than a mini but there are short-barrel option which is nice. I'd prefer a @12 inch barrel with 7.62x39 & .300.

Like this XM177 in 7.62x39 I just put together.

I tried a few types of AR 7.62x39. They never ran well for long. No good magazines. And that could be because of the standard AR magwell shape. Just doesn't work with the X39 case.

The IWI ACE has alot of appeal, but it's different than my other rifles and I'm trying to narrow down "systems".

But I will keep it in mind.

I think I have an AK or two that are pretty accurate, but decided recently, that a Mutant MAY be a good way to go - if you want MORE precision in x39, and don't want a 9 LB boat anchor.

Now that is a gun that NEVER gets old. And a 7 or 8 twist will get you 1000 yard gun/ammo possibility.

For self defense and as a general purpose rifle I prefer a semiautomatic rifle. But bolt guns are fun too.

Exactly! I have never tried the 1000 yard shot. 500 yards is the max we can shoot around here. One day….

    I decided to pass on 7.62x39. I've been there & done that and that's why I have a .308.

I got another Mini-14 in 5.56 so now I have a pair and they can share mags, etc. One folder, one fixed. Wife really enjoys the fixed stock.
