I can remember gassing up at a 7-11 in Ft Lauderdale and watching some Haitian ladies kid (4-6 years old) take a daylight dump in the landscaping between the building and the gas pumps with neither of them grasping why it isn't something done in this country.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

Secretary of State Blinken announced spending an additional $100 million of your tax dollars for so-called Haitian security forces in addition to the already $200 million spent along with $33 million in humanitarian aid.

Speaking of... I thought the Clinton Foundation was supposed to transform Haiti into a cultural island paradise.

Wife and I were just in the DR this past January as well as the last couple of years for our annual "winter tropical vacation". We like it there, albeit on a nice all-inclusive resort.

We were in Haiti militarily during the early 20th Century, but apparently it didn't help much as we had to go back in '94. And now 30 years later I hope we do NOT commit American forces at all, nor bring in even more of their unwashed masses.
My dad was on that op, 1/8. Of note, he was injured by shrapnel (no PH), and he brought home a blood-stained machete, which I still have.

DR is a beautiful, friendly place. Haiti is 180 degrees polar opposite. Been there, done that.

One of my favorite stories was after one of the Haitian earthquakes, the airport was closed down. USAF CCTs jumped in to manage airfield operations. "They" told "us" it would take "several days" to get the airfield operational. It took CCT about an hour. If you google 'CCT setting up airport in Haiti' and go to images, you see some CCT dudes running ATC from a folding table.

I was there in 94, too... The STA guys were pretty busy and kept most of the rest of us out of harm's way.

Chuck is right. DR is a beautiful place. I went there on my honeymoon and we flew over Haiti on the way in. I remember looking down on the hills and seeing black smoke from fires (I assume they were burning tires it was so black) and thinking, if we end up having to put down here….. the surviving women will be taken and men likely killed. My church has some mission workers down there and while they are there to serve the locals that need it (they run a school for deaf and blind) it is far from safe there.

My Brother was there with some SF Guys, they had a murder an hour for 72 straight hours while he was there. Machette's mostly so, thats pretty gruesome.
