My Dad did some commo stuff back in the 1960's for SAC, it might have been sattelites or something similar.
Anyway we were leaving the PX and they had an Alert. The Bombers rolled out and instead of coming out and powering down, they made a run to the end of the runway, then turned around.
My Dad explained the significance of those Bombers ever taking off and what would happen. That's a bit much for the ten year old mind to absorb.

My Dad was a Submariner on a boat that played games with the Russians in the Bering Strait in the late 1950’s-early 1960’s. I still have no use for commies.
