I find it ironic that many of the last mass shootings were committed by people that actually passed a background check on their firearms purchase.

I think this deserves it's own thread. It's actually pretty troubling.

We all knew this was coming. Once they called it a "gun show loophole" most people were dumb enough to think it only applies at gun shows and even more were dumb enough to think FFLs were able to sell at gunshows without a BGC and they are the only ones being affected.

Stating the obvious, but it will be after the fact (kind of like Obamacare) that everyone realizes what really happened. No longer will it be legal to just sell or trade a gun to your buddy (who you know is not a prohibited person), you won't be able to gift a firearm to a family member. All changes of ownership will have to go through a FFL even though it is supposed to be your private property. Now firearms will be like a home or a car, you will have to pay a servicer to officially change ownership.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

You are correct. We saw this in NY after the the "SAFE" act passed. It required background checks for personal sales. My liberal shooting buddy, a supporter of the bill, sold another mutual friend a shotgun without going through an FFL for a background check. He was rather surprised when I informed him that he was a criminal. Interestingly enough he didn't turn himself in. Nor have I heard any success stories of a background check on a personal sale stopping a sale to a prohibited person.
