US Navy frigate vs giant squid

Interesting. Haven't heard of this happening with any other vessel (so far). Sounds like the opening scene of a Syfy flick.

"She is noteworthy as a U.S. Navy vessel that has apparently been attacked by an unknown species of giant squid. In 1978, the "NOFOUL" rubber coating of her AN/SQS-26 sonar dome was damaged by multiple cuts over 8 percent of the dome surface. Nearly all of the cuts contained remnants of sharp, curved claws found on the rims of suction cups of some squid tentacles. The claws were much larger than those of any squid that had been discovered at that time."

It's funny but you see those old images and automatically assume it's all BS.

Then they find proof that they still exist. I always try and remember we thought the Coelacanth went extinct 65 million years ago and then we found them still living in 1938. Sometimes we really have no idea what is actually out there.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

My Dad was an Underwater Welder/Salvage for a while, back when they used Bathosphere's and you would stay down for as long as you could stand because the cash register was ringing.

No, there's far more mysteries at the bottom of the Ocean than there ever were on the Moon.

We like to imagine that we understand and control our world, but in reality there are many things lurking in the dark, just on the edge of our awareness.
It's f*****g great, putting holes in people, all the time, and it just puts 'em down mate, they drop like sacks of s**t when they go down with this.

Be nice to have pics or measurements,, instead of just a vague sentence out of Wiki.

Some more info, though they call the sonar a radar🙄
