looking at picking up an Emerson Commander. wondering if the serrated version is worth it, or just get the non-serrated blade.
pros, cons?

I have a non-serrated Commander. I personally prefer the non-serrated blades. I am told that the serrations do well when cutting rope. I keep my knives sharp, and rarely seem to have an issue cutting things.
I prefer the plain edge blades. The serrations are difficult to sharpen. It takes very little time to clean up the plain edges.
i have two mini-commanders, both plain edge. and i just received my HD7 with a combo edge. both work just fine. i have tools to sharpen the serrated part, so i don't really worry. also i hardly use the WHOLE blade at once, so i don't mind if part of it is serrated.
"you give peace a chance, I'll stay here and cover you, in case it doesn't work out"
I prefer my plain edge Commanders, though I have no problems with my 2 serrated models. I find the recurve blades cut really aggressively though with the serrations. I'm somewhat of a Commander junky though, currently 8 strong.

I prefer plain edges over serrations. You can modify the aggressiveness of the bite of the blade simply by changing sharpening stone grit.
The plain edge is also much more versatile. Ever tried making fuzz-sticks with a serrated edge?
I prefer the plain but the one given to me has serrations. I do find it hand from time to time.
Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Only thing I ever used serrated knives for was cutting the heads off of defective extension cords (usually while someone was using them), beyond that I prefer plain edge.
