Got the rifle, shot the rifle, love the rifle. When I picked it up, I discovered that my gun store had 300 rounds of Barnaul 5.45 FMJ for me to add to my 3000+ rounds of 7N6. After my Bennie Cooley handgun course was over this weekend, I and several of my cohorts took the opportunity to start the function testing. As fast as we could, 120 rounds were sent down range. Not one problem. Would have shot more but it was Father's Day and we all needed to get home. I would have like to have shot all ammo myself, however, when three grown men are standing there like kids in a candy store, it was just too much to bear. Several observations and a few questions:
1) True to the AK form, the gun gets HOT!!! This was driven home by the nice kiss it gave a fellow shooter. It must have not been too bad as he couldn't wipe the smile off his face when he was finished. I noticed that at the end of shooting, the foreend was almost too hot to handle. Will the Surefire AK rail work with this rifle? I think a VFG might help alleviate this problem.
2) The gun is just plain accurate and extremely easy to shoot. I don't know if it's soley because of the cartridge or the cartridge in combination with the muzzle break, but no could stop commenting on how easy it was to control during rapid shooting.
3) The finish and Gun Scrubber do not mix.The only reason I used it was to blow out the muzzle break but have decided that it should instead be placed in back of my cabinet. I'm not quite sure what the finish is, but I am tempted to have the rifle, dare I say, parkerized.
4) The muzzle break has a slight amount of wobble on the barrel. I'm not too concerned about this as I don't see how it could become a problem, however, I would like to know if this is typical.
Overall, I am extremely pleased with my purchase and I would suggest that if anyone is considering getting an AK, take a look at an SLR-105 if you can find one.
