Dont sell the Chinese short in their ability do produce QUALITY knockoffs.
A friend of mine does a lot of business with China for things like cheap latex gloves and things like that.
He took a $150 deer hunting tree stand safety harness and sent it to his contact in china with a request for some samples.
3 weeks later he got back his original along with 4 samples. They were indestinguishable from the original. His contact estimated that they could be shipped to his door (in quantities of 200) for <$10 each.
Also, re forged vs cast. If you look at the LMT fixed sight, a little eyeball engineering shows that it is geometrically "strong". i.e. it doesnt need a lot of matereal strength because of its shape. Shoot, I'd bet this thing would do just fine made out of plastic. Either way, cast is plenty strong. Of greater concern to anyone should be the quality of the machining. Thats what will determine how well a forged or cast item will be.
One item of note. Everyone gets all hot and bothered about items machined from billet. Well guess what, 99.9% of billet stock is cast. just an fyi.
Don
p.s. frankly, for a plinker, whats wrong with using an inexpensive sight. So long as it holds its zero. I'm thinking of specifically this sight:

Its cheap and it works GREAT. Would I spend the extra $$ if I was going into battle with it. Of course. But this sight works well, and looks much better than you would ever imagine. Give credit where credit is due.

oh no.... im not saying they're bad. in fact they can produce any quality you demand from them. according to your spec and material.
but when you say that this item is to be a toy. the buyer can state that he doesn't need same material and same qualtiy of work to make it cheaper. in other words it just depends on how you order them.
I have a friend who has an ISO standard machine shop. yes. he could make anything in the market for a cheaper price. but he just woudn't do it. he's afraid he could lose his iso standard by copying. as far as I know he is being contracted to make scope bodies. but I don't know which company. i've seen his staff boxing scope bodies. these scopes will probably be fitted with lenses made in Japan, assembled in the U.S. and will be called proudly made in the U.S. of A. and non can be wiser.
just like I said... it depends on how you order it.
hell... id know that. when China wasn't a production super power. We were in the rubber shoes business. We would make rubber shoes for export.. and they would give us the cloth tags that said. "Made in U.S."... and I live in the Philippines.
Just got my LMT buis. The locking nut doesn't screw off as mentioned before. You barely have enough room to get it on the rail. On the fake ones, it screws right off.
natdm,
I assume you have the fake buis and the orig. if so then that puts my doubt to rest. I got the right buis.
Kukang,
I suspect most of the manual labor is done in the Philippines. My friend is ISO standard cnc machining shop. the scopes are then shipped to the export processing zone. they are assembled there.
and yes sir... it barely got into the rail. I even thought that it could get into the rails.
Does anyone else's LMT rear sight elevation knob keep clicking past the 6/3 big-gap mark?
God I am so sick of this fake airsoft crap.
Here's what I have found. Needed a Cheap sight for a budget build and went with this NcStar. Works fine. I put a drop of Blue Loctite on the screw threads as I found it loose once. But it will do the job.
