Airsoft is airsoft and there is no problem with that per se.

However, when they copy a product down to the last detail, including identification markings, WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF THE MANUFACTURER, then it is not a question of airsoft, its a question of copyright infringement.

Couple that with shady individuals looking to make a profit and you have situations like the OP is fearing happening on a daily basis.

No one here is going to airsoft looking for a cheaper alternative. In fact the OP was fearing he was given an airsoft sight instead of the real one he was looking for.

Like I said in my earlier post, the elevation knob clicks about 3 above 6/3 "Big-gap" before it tops out. It's been so long since I worked with an A2 rear that I don't remember if this is normal. It does bottom out at 6/3 "Small-gap". Here are pics:
    Is this the e-bay seller:

I contacted him questioning the authenticity and this was their reply:

"This is 100% LMT and 100% authentic , we offer 30 days return policy , we just bought a very big amount of those in a closeout , over 2000 pieces of sets"

I'm tempted to do it. That too-good-to-be-true price is really holding me up.

I've done business with this seller many times and the items I got (optics) were verified legit.

I ordered one a couple weeks ago. The first one I received was quite heavily used, perhaps in Iraq or something, so I sent it back. The replacement was in new condition (same plastic bag packaging mentioned above) and appears to be 100% LMT, but possibly a slightly older version, compared to the sights on a 2008 manufacture LMT carbine.

I suspect these have had a round trip to some hot sunny place on the other side of the world, and that most of them sat in a warehouse there, but a few like the one I first received didn't.

Yeah that's the seller. It's a deal and a half man. After recieving it, that's when I started to think about the authenticity, and came across this thread. So far all the characteristics of an authentic LMT rear as described here by some of the folks posting in this thread, match those of the sight that I recieved. I also took it out to the range last wednesday to zero it using a military 25m BZO reduced target and everything was g2g. Now I just have to confirm at longer range. The packaging only consists of a small zip-lock bag within a bigger small zip-lock bag. But I didn't think too much of it, as it's not the first item of this nature that I've recieved packaged in this manner. Personally I'm convinced that it's real, so I say go for it bro. The seller seems to have a pretty solid rep as well.

Sounds like it was packaged exactly like the version I recently bought from Botach. Similarly, everything the recent posts here said to look for checked out on the sight.

Not that Botach is any indicator of authenticity, but it is another data point.

Well, I ordered one too and just got it today. The sight was so dry that I had to squirt some Break Free into the nooks and crannies to get the elevation wheel to turn, but it goes both directions with very positive clicks now.

The sight is the newer "hollowed out" base style that has made some people suspicious of even the genuine LMT sight.

The thumb nut is staked on. You can't take it off the bolt like I've heard you can with the airsoft unit.

Here's something else: the 0-2 aperture is drilled slightly off to the right by a few thousandths of an inch like I've read it should be. I doubt seriously an airsoft maker would think of something like that.

I say the evidence points to it being genuine.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was about to swap mine out with a spare aperture.

    BUIS

Having browsed around my regular lurking sights I bumped into this thread.

I ordered one of those LMTs from the exact same seller last night (having not checked here). It is supposed to arrive this Monday.

Strange how fate and coincidence work. The price was too good to pass up.

I have ordered a couple of small M4 goodies from E-Bay and haven't been disappointed (yet). Everything had been legitimate.

Caveat Emptor. Contact the seller if there are questions and make sure that person has excellent reviews.

    Cheers.
