Two years ago a young tanker from Fort Stewart, Was testing two model 1 sales 16'' uppers that he bought to take with him to Iraq. I was at the table next to him, he was to leave in a week. He would fire about three or four rounds and the weapon would fail to load, he would recharge and the same thing would happen again. I always take more stuff than i need to the range , so i offered him a bottle of clp he lubed them up well and got about ten shots this time, same thing. This was the case with both uppers. Now he was firing standard mil. issue ammo, not wolf or bargain brand, but new, clean ammo. Being noisy like most of us are, i ask the obvious questions, what brand, how many rounds fired, what ammo. After he settled down and his wife kept him from slinging them down range. He told me all of the above, i found that we lived close and i invited him to come over and i would be glad to mic the bores of both uppers. Both uppers were so tight that the bolt carriers had to be almost forced in and out . against my advice he sanded the bores with a drill and a home made sanding drum. A month later he emailed me from Iraq to say that his Armour swapped out the Model 1 sales with G.I. A3 uppers receivers. Barrels were gtg, He trashed the Model 1 sales.

I could understand rolling the dice on a plinker. Especially if I purchased it with a credit card and could return for credit.

But to skimp on something that you are going to bet your life on is . . . well, its suicide.

    Don
p.s. They let guys put their own uppers on their issue M4s?

Why would a tanker from an Army unit buy some bullshit like that and take it to Iraq instead of using his issued weapon???? Apparently he didn't get the memo about modifying his issued weapon.

Because they probably would have issued him an A2 and its too damn long, especially for a tanker

    Saginaw,

When I was in the Army the M16A2 was the standard issue weapon before the M4 became more widespread. Tankers used them and so did the 11M's assigned to Bradleys. It worked for them. Plus having worked with tankers they aren't jumping in and out of their vehicles all day.

My main point is why was a soldier buying a piece of shit that was already proving to be unreliable on the range to a combat zone? What is the unit armorer doing by allowing parts of it to be used when it is forbidden to do so? Where is this soldiers chain of command while this is happening?

I bought two complete Uppers from Model 1 last year. One was a 7.62x39 with a 20" bbl, the other was a 24" bbl Varmint in 5.56. Both Uppers have performed flawlessly. However, I would say, stay away from their BCGs as I had some problems with the Bolt for the 7.62. The second Upper was ordered w/o their BCG.

Overall, their deliveries and customer service has been good for me.
