Best model of ACOG for all around use??

Damn those are some beautifully setup shooting ranges you shoot at Jeff. I'm jealous.
Here in GA, I cannot find a decent range, with steel targets at varying distances for the life of me.
You would think that any good range owner would set up his range accordingly, but it seems 98% of them don't even care about doing so...

The pics are from a monthly run and gun rifle match that I shoot in, set up by some guy that work for the same agency as me.

When the match is over the barricades and steel targets get torn down and put away.

There is another range at this same facility that has staggered targets in 50 yard increments from 50 - 250 yards....but it's not the same as the match posted above.

Do you know what the overall weight is for this configuration? Also, what is the barrel length and profile?

Weight with a full PMAG is right around 9.5 lbs. The barrel is a 12.5" Operator from Global Tactical, and is heavy behind the gas block. Recontouring the barrel to a gov't profile would take over a pound off the total. So far, though, the weight hasn't been an issue. With the can attached, it's a slightly different story...

I like the TA11B. Yeah, it's big, but the eye relief is good, acquisition is fast due to the circle (if that's what you like), and I have worked out the aiming points on the reticule out to 400 yards.

I wouldn't put it on a carbine, but on a full sized rifle it works as a carry handle scope. I have not tried it on a flattop; I probably would not put an ACOG on a flattop due to the plethora of available sights for that mounting system.

I borrowed this photo from Arfcom, and it pretty much imparts what the sight feels like.

What is the Best model of ACOG for all around use?? And WHY?? I have read the older "Aimpoint for room clearing" while acog is better for distance shooting" posts, but I am looking for advice on which particular acog model to get.

And are the marine/army acog models with the side BDC "hash marks" & killflash worth the extra money??

Best ACOG would kind of depend on the weapon you are putting it on.

My personal favorite is the TA33R-8, but I think my new favorite is going to be the TA33H-G (green horseshoe).

A compelling rebuttal, Paul. Prevailing wisdom seems to be that the ACOGs are severely handicapped for the close-in fight, but apparently that message hasn't reached the troops, as I've routinely seen them employed at "unsuitably close" distances with great effect.

Are there more optimized solutions for knife-range-range confrontations? Certainly, but that hasn't exactly kept the ACOG sidelined, and I sometimes think we're a bit too quick to be a bit too dismissive of what can be accomplished with the right 3x or 4x solution.

I'm not negating the argument in favor of 1:1, but there is tradeoff in versatility when it comes to target ID at intermediate distances, and I've yet to be convinced that the oft-touted 3x magnifiers really offer the optimal solution to the problem.

What about if you use it as an occluded red dot? Is that any better, or can you even do it? Of course, you loose the view from the dominant eye so it's not a great solution. Just curious.

I keep coming back to the idea of an Aimpoint and 3x magnifier in the Larue Mounts (with the flip for the 3x). Seems to cover everything except having a BDC. Then there's the $1200+ cost makes me keep putting off a decision...

My preference is for the TA11, as it has the same features as the TA31 with longer eye relief. The only down side to the TA11 is that it's larger than the TA01NSN and TA31. The larger size of the TA11 is not an issue on a rifle or mid-length, but they tend to dominate a M4 or SBR.
