Was that it? It's a sticky...

Sometimes a little bit knowledge is dangerous.
When preparing to engage in a battle of wits, it's best to ensure you're using quality ammunition.

that's right, it was the "I bought an AR, now what" post. I'll start with an H buffer and go from there.

So is the carbine buffer an invention of the commercial AR market?

Part 2 of my article 'What now?' will have the explanation of different buffers and options. If your AR came with a CAR buffer I'd use it with .223 Rem SAAMI pressure ammo until it gives you problems.
If you're shooting a 100% diet of 5.56mm NATO pressure ammo then I'd suggest going to an H at a minimum or even an H2 depending on the particular gun and gas port size.

I am not up to speed well enough on the commercial AR history to say for certain.

It is the cheapest option though and that is why most companies stick with them.

    What about LMT?
It is my understanding they have a .063 gas port but also use a carbine buffer. What is the opinion on the balance of this set up?

I would follow Colt's lead and install an H buffer.

How about a BCM 16" middy on an LMT lower?

Before getting the LMT, I had my BCM on a Bushmaster lower in which I put an H buffer, and it was running well with both 5.56 and PCM .223. The LMT has a carbine buffer ... would I be better running the H buffer in it too?

With a Middy, I would run a standard buffer and maybe a CS spring.

Thanks Grant. I'll leave it as it is then.
