You are not doing yourself any favors.

I am not sure any more. I would guestimate that it is above .063 though and would use an H buffer.

Same topic, different gun... What would you recommend I run in the Noveske 10.5" you are building for me? I had planned to just use the carbine buffer.

H or H2. The other variable in this is if you are going to us a can or not.

The S&W (along with BM, DPMS, RRA, OLY, etc) have gas ports well above the mil-standard of .063. This is why I suggest an H2 or even an H3 buffer.

One of the reasons (IMHO) for the large gas ports is because these manufacturers believe that the people buying their guns are going to be shooting the cheapest (read under pressured ammo) available and they don't want to get CS calls asking why their bolt won't lock back.

Do Colt's and LMT's, which use the proper .063 gas port, run OK with Wolf and cheap plinking ammo, or do they need full pressure NATO-spec ammo to run?

Yes they do. BCM M4's also have a gas port of .063 (FYI).

Hope this isn't a dumb question, but if .063" is capable of running the spectrum of low pressure Wolf through NATO-spec ammo, then why would any mfg choose to drill a gas port larger, knowing that in doing so, they're going to compromise reliability and/or durability if the end user chooses to run NATO-spec ammo exclusively?

I believe it is because they are misinformed or just ignorant. The same with the staking or lack thereof of the bolt carriers, receiver extensions, extractor inserts, buffer selection and so on.

I read somewhere on here that the reason LMT lowers come with carbine buffers because of the smaller gas ports on their uppers. I did a quick search but I couldn't find the thread. I have an LMT upper coming next week for one of my LMT lowers. Should I leave the carbine buffer in it that it came with or put an H buffer in? I'll be running it with an LMT F/A BCG.
