I just bought a used 870, and the barrel says for 2 3/4" shells. Can I put a 3" magnum barrel on it, or does the receiver have to be stronger?

IIRC the ejector in the receiver needed to be changed or modified in some way.Originally Posted by This Guy

Thanks, I'll look into that.
By accident I figured out that not only can you chamber a 3" shell with a barrel marked for 2 3/4" but you can fire it. Issue becomes when you want to eject the shell. The opening in the receiver is not big enough to fit a fired shell. I had to take the barrel off to get the empty shell out.
You can send old 2 3/4" Wingmasters to Wilson Tactical & for $45 they will convert it to chamber 3". IIRC just involves making the shell opening larger in the receiver.
