Doc, any .50 BMG wound ballistic info?

M33 ball vs M8 API vs Mk211, for instance?

Only thing I've ever seen is testing of the 750gr AMAX over on brassfetcher: http://www.brassfetcher.com/hornadyamax.html

It didn't fragment, and I doubt there'd be significant differences between the three choices you outlined (on soft tissue, that is). I doubt that human tissue would be sufficient to ignite Mk211 and expect it would act like ball.

My understanding is that some of the time Raufoss will detonate in people, particularly if it has to go through something to get to them, like a barrier or Kalashnikov magazines.

I had a conversation a couple of years back with a Marine sniper who was in Iraq using a Barrett M82A1 .50 rifle. He told me about a particular engagement where hajji was on the top floor of bldg. and apparently they were monitoring the activity a Marine foot patrol nearby. They were approx. 700 yds. from his position and the bldg was typical M.E construction of cinder block/ brick and cement.

He engaged the targets through wall and no more activity was sighted. Later when the clearing team went into the bldg. they said that the had punched through the wall and hit each target in the upper torso. I believe that he told me he was using the Mk 211 MOD 0 Raufoss round.
