A few ?'s about the lite rail

I'm looking at the 10.0 lite rail. First off, does the newer production models still have the lightening holes on the bottom portion of the rail? And does the newer version still weigh 12oz?

Some pics of rifles with the newer production rails would be nice too.

Yes they are 12oz. No they do not have the holes on the bottom, but this version will slide over a low profile gas block w/gas tube already installed.

I'll be building an upper later tonight with a DD Lite 10.0 on Noveske 16" middy barrel. If time allows, I'll reply back with some pics before bedtime.

Why do away with the holes on the bottom? Doesnt that make it heavier overall?

I think it looks better with the holes and wonder about the weight issue too. There are other changes such as the enlarged opening that allows you to mount your gas block and gas tube before installing the rail. I guess that reduction compensated for the other.

This is a 10" DD Lite rail on a Noveske 16" barrel using a Vltor gas block.

You'll have to ask them. I'd ditch them to cut back on machining time and deburr time if I could find some other way to save weight.

Bad move on their part, I would be willing to pay at little extra for those holes and end up with an overall lighter rail, better cooling ect.

There are alot of guys in the same boat as me in the market place and on TOS looking for the old school rails.

This is kinda turning me away from buying a lite rail

There are still ventilation holes on the bottom side of the left and right side rails so I doubt they hurt the cooling effect much, if at all. If you don't like the look, don't buy.

looking closely at my 12" Lite rail, I'm not even sure I'd save an ounce of weight if I hogged out a bunch of holes along the bottom rail.

Anyway how much does that upper weigh? I have a very similar build in mind

I'll try to get a number on it, I'd say just a shade under 5 lbs with XTMs and Troy f/r BUIS and a LMT F/A BCG.

Damn that pretty light. Do you have a light wt. profile under the handguards? My 14.5" M4gery is 7.1lbs and its pretty KISS.

Im shooting for around 8.5lbs with optics on my build
