    Yeah, I had a guy at the Gunshow on Saturday offer me an SKS that looked like someone puked an UTG and Tapco catalog on it, with a cross-threaded and upside down flash-hider and el-cheapo le excremente laser/light combo in trade for a $600 pistol with laser grips (M&P .45).

    I actually like gun shows. A part of me just wants to see what weird shit someone will say next and honestly I do find deals from time to time. Yea it's true, most of the shows are 90% Tapco and beef jerky but you do find deals. It's never anything major but I've scored some minor stuff. Mostly ammo/mags. I'm also casually into surplus firearms so so if I see a good price on something I may buy it.

    Typical gun stores are no different than typical gun forums. The same people frequent both. AKs can't hit anything past 100 yards, my Taurus is just as good as (_____), 223 is for small game, if it was good enough for my grandpappy..., True Glo is just like Aim point bit you don't pay for the name....etc....etc...

    I am the same way. I like gun shows for the people watching. Never know what you are going to hear next, but if you listen close enough, you almost always hear something gold

    I saw a guy wanting to sell an UZI clone for the same money as a real one. A dealer friend of mine tried to explain the difference to him and the price difference. The guy acted like my friend didn't know shit, so dealer, told him to GTFO, he wouldn't buy or sell anything to him at any price.

    In the "now I've heard it all" category-
    Overheard a conversation at work, something about what seemed to be the usual "AKs are better than ARs" info being doled out. I meandered over to see what was up and perhaps steer the conversation in a less biased direction. Then I hear the gem (paraphrased);
    "AKs are a better choice than an AR because they're easier to put back together".
    I said, "wait a sec, *what* happened?" thinking there must have been some catastrophic error made in assembly or something.
    "Yeah, AKs are better than ARs because they're easier to take apart and put back together- (relative of speaker, who incidentally also has LE experience) had a hard time with the AR, but you know the AK only has like 3 parts when you take it apart...."

    I was expecting to hear the usual more reliable/bigger bullet/price/etc. AK arguments, and instead it turns out the poor fella just couldn't grasp basic field strip and re-assembly for an AR....

    I had an immediate comment I nearly blurted out but thankfully I have become very good at saying "oh, I see" and walking away.

    I had a co-worker once who claimed that he liked the M16 better during his service days because it has fewer parts when field stripped than an AK.

    Guy is at the rental counter that wants to buy ear pro and has questions as to why he would need electronic vs the plane jane ones. The gun shop guy was helpful explaining the difference. I added that if you were to ever take a training class it is helpful and often recommended to have electronic ear pro so you can hear the instructor.

    His response was “I don’t need training; I was in the military”. Had to chuckle and walk away!
