Adjustable gas system options?

Let's say you are one of the many short barrel owners out there that have out of spec gas ports. Some may be from the manufaturer and some may be from errosion. What are your options short of replacing the barrel? As far as I can tell we have adjustable gas tubes. Adjustable gas blocks. Anyone have any real life experience with these options? What other options are there?

Rather than going to a adjustable gas system have you thought about other (cheaper) solutions to your now overgassed carbine?
