Here's a question....I see most of ya'll are seeing checks cashed almost immediately upon receipt. Mine was supposed to have been mailed 6/13 (from the dealer), yet I still have not seen a check cashed. Uh-oh.

Can't believe i'm saying it, but at this point, I'm actually hoping my dealer forgot to mail my packet... time to do some more asking.

Well I had some pretty darn good luck this time:

    - 05/06/2009: Mailed Form 1 for registering my Daniel Defense M4 Carbine lower as an SBR
    - 05/13/2009: Check cashed
    - 07/08/2009: Went "Pending"

This is where it gets "interesting." On 07/14/2009 I decided I NO LONGER wanted to register my DD M4 Carbine lower receiver as an SBR, because a couple days earlier I bought and received my new Knights Armament SR-15 E3 rifle and decided that I wanted to register THAT ONE instead since it had the awesome ambi controls and it's just a great lower overall (but very pricey). I called the NFA Branch in Martinsburg, WV, talked with my Examiner an asked her if I could "swap" out registering the DD M4 lower for my new KAC SR-15 lower.

She said yes, and that I only needed to fill out a new pair of Form 1s, mail them directly to her desk and that she would basically just cancel out and throw away the previous DD Form 1 and process the new KAC Form 1 in its place.

My Examiner (A great lady to deal with BTW! Very helpful and polite!) at the NFA Branch received my new Form 1 for my KAC lower receiver on 07/20/2009 (this past Monday), and it was "Approved" the very next day! So here is the total and final timeline below:

    - 05/06/2009: Mailed Form 1 for registering my Daniel Defense M4 Carbine lower as an SBR
    - 05/13/2009: Check cashed
    - 07/08/2009: Went "Pending"
    - 07/14/2009: Mailed new Form 1 for registering my new KAC SR-15 lower as an SBR
    - 07/20/2009: New Form 1 Received by NFA Branch
    - 07/21/2009: New Form 1 Approved

Total amount of days from beginning to end: 79 Days

That's pretty damn good when compared to the average amount of time it has been taking lately, which is roughly 90-100 days, or between 3 to 3.5 months.

Any for any of you guys having trouble with your Form 1's and 4's, do yourself a favor and call the NFA Branch. They are VERY helpful and the people who answer the phones there get paid to do that job, so use them to help you figure out what's going on. You have to be proactive with these things (i.e. when the government is involved with anything)

Been there all they are saying is still pending. Asked about moving out of state while the form is still pending as it looks like I am gonna be stuck doing that if I want to keep my job and not take a major demotion and was told no can do. I would need to cancel that one and resubmit from the new state, new signature and basically start over from scratch. This would mean going the trust route since they don't sign off(which im not willing to fool with), new receiver and all that since this one is alaredy engraved and another 4+ month wait

Here's a stupid question - I did an electronic fingerprint scan for my CCH here in NC; it's my understanding that goes to NCIC. If I was looking for a stamp for a suppressor, would that speed the process up in any way?

You still need to submit standard fingerprint cards to the FBI with your paperwork if you are using a traditional route. CCW's, security clearances and all that other jazz have no impact at all.
