    "Zero" mount return

maybe i'm chasing the holy grail, but does anyone have actual experience with a mount configuration that will give you a true return to zero, after dismount and mount?

i've drilled, tapped and mounted enough bases to know that I hadn't found a setup yet that gave me a true return to zero. Maybe i haven't looked in the right places; so i'm tossing this out to see if someone can point me in the right direction.

reasoning??? If i need to quickly add a magnified scope, could i do it with a high degree of retained accuracy? This is logically assuming the scope was properly sighted prior to being dismounted. This would be on a BCM M4 upper.

anyone have words of wisdom for me?

    Thanks

My Larue mounts come back to zero. At least close enough that my shooting isn't good enough to notice a difference with optics from 1x to 4x.

I've heard but not seen with my own two eyes, similarly good reports regarding the ADM and Bobro mounts.

LaRue mounts on M4 carbines work well and are combat proven. That is enough for me. There are other newer mounts on the market with potential, but lack the track record.

All of my Larue Mounts have always retained zero as long as I put it in the same location (which I have marked with a paint pen).

In fact, one time ("...in band camp..." ) I took the T-1 off the mount, put it on a Daniel Defense offset mount, shot a few rounds that way, took it off the DD offset mount and re-installed it onto the Larue mount, and then remounted it on the rifle and found that I did not have to re-zero the T-1. FWIW.

the rifle in my post in this thread https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=25911

has a USO SN3 on it that is on a larue mount and i remove the scope every time i shoot it, since they're separated in the storm case.

before i got it adjusted, it was sliding around the rail a bit, returning to zero, but shooting about 1 1/4 MOA

after i adjusted the larue mount (which honestly, took a lot more adjusting than i expected), it's doing half minute groups. the pic in that thread is 5 rnds in 3.8" at 600 yrds.

yeah, should have figured if one mount was commonly recommended, it would be the LaRue's. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

BTW, I have two ADM mounts for aimpoints. I have had no issues with them returning to zero. But, I was looking at one of them recently and had a concern about something else....

A good mount needs to be rock solid not only on the weapon but off it as well. For instance, say you keep an aimpoint in your ruck, to switch out with your other scope it needed. Thus, the mount needs to be take the abuse of being carried and possibly getting snagged on other kit. What worries me about the ADM is the two partially exposed springs. If one or both of the springs are missing, how well does the mount work?
