    I have thought of it, just haven't done it. I'm having a 8' workbench made at work and might do this but I'd really need two identical vises and mount the barrel holding one a little higher (use a piece of plywood) to elevate it slightly. Or make the barrel holding vise like a milling machine so that it could slide fore/aft to adjust to where it needs to be. It would be cool if a vise company made a vise like this for AR work.

    Having the second vice on rails would be very nice to allow it to slide in (and limit movement to) the X and Y axis, and could alleviate the height issue as well since the rails would automatically make it higher. Cool ideas.

    Pretty much leaves the Bushmaster action clamp as the only one I know of that fully supports the receiver in the vise.
    After some email exchange I'm informed the Brownells part numbers 702-003-015 and 702-004-015 were indeed dropped by Brownells but there are now in stock direct substituion parts with the following respective part numbers: 080-000-661 and 080-000-662.

    FYI

    When I searched those #s I found nothing for 080-000-661 but then searched 080-000-662 and found that the combination is 080-000-659. Not sure that is what you were trying to reference....

    They're not on the site yet but can be ordered as they're in stock. This info was relayed to me by the Brownells CS person who was in turn relaying the information from their tech staff.

    They're both up on the Brownell's site now. I just ordered the lower receiver vise block a few minutes ago:

    080-000-662 ==> Lower Receiver Vise Block
    080-000-659 ==> Action Block/Vise Block Set

    Here is the link to the upper action block It's available now, $52.85 or $40.65 with discount. I ordered one last week, received it a few days ago and it is nice. Very secure!

    I picked up a "Block-Worx" set of vice blocks on gunbroker, and they've worked out well for me (Most of the reason I tried them, though, was because the maker lives like 10 miles away from where I grew up)
