Your tools for ARs says something about the Peace River block causing marks on upper receivers, is there a use to avoid because of this?

DPMS Claw's recommended several times now. How's it possible for it support the receiver when cranking on a barrel nut?

The PRI block I didn't know about. So it's a Claw without the material above the mounting base.

Yeah, I can see how each could be handy for different jobs.

Ever use the action clamp from Bushmaster?

GTG Thanks that will be the one I go with

DPMS Panther Claw is the way to go. It's the most versatile too.

Peace River block dropped by Brownells

Ordered it along with a few other things. Email informs me there will be no backorder and that it as a line item has been cancelled from my order due to it being dropped by Brownells.

Pretty much leaves the Bushmaster action clamp as the only one I know of that fully supports the receiver in the vise.

I too use the DPMS Panther Claw the most. Using the clamp type a shop rag or electrical tape around the receiver will prevent the marks.

All you need is a barrel clamp.

This is the cause of most of the canted FSBs that I repair for people.

You can usually tell when someone has used barrel blocks when installing/removing barrels. If there is aluminum left on the middle of the barrel under the handguards many times if you look closely the FSB is leaning to the shooters right. Ideally it would be best for the upper receiver and the barrel to be secured as the barrel nut is torqued. This would prevent any canting one way or the other.

The only thing I ever use barrel blocks for is for securing the barrel for installation/removal of muzzle devices. I use the non-marring rubber coated barrel blocks from Brownells. I use the solid aluminum ones when securing a barrel in a milling machine when removing/installing perm. mounted flash hiders etc.

I've thought this for a long time too. Ever give any thought to trying to mount two vices on the same centerline to try to make it happen? The problem I see is that most vices move only one jaw meaning the centerline changes with the jaw distance and you'd have a different centerline for different barrel profiles.
