Im just really trying to figure out, if im trying to make my rifle do something it wasnt designed for. My local range only goes to 200 yards. And this is going to be my SHTF/3 gun style competition (Run and gun) gun along with my Range gun. All around you see. And am just wondering if by running the ACOG, the mini red dot, and the irons, if i should just go with a small variable that can do CQB (1X) plus long range, or if i should just stick to close target quick acqusistion. I REALLY like the idea of the CQB by leupold, but i hear bad things about it.

ACOG in Occluded Mode
I ran a TA11-D with a Progressive Machine objective lens cover (GREAT piece of gear, BTW) so I could quickly transition to/from occluded mode.
I found that the reticle washed out when:
1/in lowlight when a white light was switched on
2/when going from a bright environment into a dark one when you have to shoot NOW
Due to the above, I sold the setup and went back to a battery powered RDS.
I did find that in good light conditions, shooting in occluded mode was the fastest way for ME to shoot targets from 0 to 25 meters with the TA11.
If you are going to use an ACOG or other 4x or higher power scope, IMO the offset mini RDS is the way to go for close targets.
For 3 gun, be sure to consider how using 2 optics affects you (open v. tactical, etc.)

Also, The only optics ive ever used before on an AR were RDS ones. Im looking at the Comp M4. Due to its insane battery life. and 2 MOA dot.
