Have you tried both the eotech and the aimpoint? I initially wanted an eotech, but the guys here steered me toward and aimpoint. I got one and I am very happy with it. Later on I played with eotechs several times in gunstores and I found they weren't for me. I didn't care for the buttons and I didn't care for the reticle either (even though I thought I might before). I'm not saying go aimpoint(though that's a good idea), but definately try both first if you can. That way you can see what features work best for you.

Just an FYI - I wouldn't mess with the ARMS mounts on that too much. I had some ARMS throw levers loosen up on me in under 18 months of casual shooting.

Thanks to everyone so far for the great input. I am definitely going to look into aimpoint as wel as EOtech. If im going to spend ~1000$ on optics and another 1000 getting he gun perfect im not going to rush into anything.
Only reason I'm considering spending so much is the fact that the current rifle I got basically for free after trading in a preban colt that I paid 300 for over a decade ago and getting the new M4A3 and a case of 1,000 .223 for an even trade. Seems like I made out pretty well.

As far as ARMS products go, any objections to the arms #40 flip up rear used as a backup with my optics system. that and an omega rail seem to be part of my prospective build. I'm curious to see how well a two piece floating rail system feels.

*How difficult is removing the front sight/gas block and what tools are required? Or am i better off leaving the factory one and using a two piece fore grip replacement.

I was considering using a longer one piece floating rail and the low profile gas block in conjunction. any thoughts..? - Is this possible with the carbine length gas system? - If not ill stick with the Omega

-Do not need night vision option
-Must be the compact version using the shorter batteries
-Must be side button version (for use with magnifier)
-Magnifier must be the FTS version (flip to side)

Can anyone help me with model selection? Im great with my irons but new to optics.
I thank you in advance for your time helping with this!
There is only one model that really fits this criteria. The 516. And the current 3xFTS magnifier.

I would consider an aimpoint but the above is what you are asking for.

the aimpoint/eotech question is the same as the colt/bushmaster question- though not as extreme:

Why buy inferior for the same money as superior?

I have over 300 of them in my armory . I have one on my issued carbine only because it does work and I generally don't have to use it often. I also had an EOTech model 552 on one of my personal weapons. IMHO there are just too many down sides and I have seen too many fail for my personal liking. I have only played with the Aimpoints on a limited basis, but I would surely take one of the M4's over an EOTech any day.

The Aimpoint/Eotech debate is a hot one but I would go with the Aimpoint due to my personal experience. We have several Eotechs on our our Commandos at our department. The batteries are contstantly going bad in them. We have had several of them stop working all together. Reliability just sucks! I bought an Aimpoint M3 off of Ebay and put it on my gun. It was the best money I ever spent. No battery issues, the battery life is great and my optic stays on all the time unless I put the gun in the safe and that don't happen that much!

If reliability is really an issue with the eotech then I will absolutely go somewhere else. I can't justify buying something that could get me killed due to being unreliable. I like the look of the aimpoints, at this point I have to try and get some hands on. Spending 700 on a single optic just seems like so much when for ~900 I could get a two piece setup with some range and CQ ability

You can get a good Aimpoint for less than $700.00. If you want the newest version the M4, yes you will pay a little more than $700.00 but I would not go that route unless you are made of $$$$$. I have a M3 on my rifle that I picked up on ebay brand new for $400.00 I saved $120 bucks then I bought a LaRue mount for $120. Total in optic $520.00. You could come out a little cheaper if you went with the M2, then of course there are the ML Aimpoints that are not NVG compatible and they are a little cheaper.
