16 in barreled Middie cut to 14.5?

Is there any technical reason not to cut a 16 in barreled Middie to 14.5 and permanently fix a Vortex to it? Does a Middie gas system need atleast a 16 in barrel to be its most reliable?

They work fine as a 14.5", I had my 16" RRA 1x8 stainless barrel cut to 14.5" and rethreaded.

Thanks, Is having a permanently attached FS really a big negative?

Not until you decide that you want a different FS.

My most recent build is a 14.5 with Vortex middie. It's slick and fast handling. I wouldn't want this as my only AR but as a second or third it makes sense to me. Bottom line is I wanted it. It's kind of cool, and it's my money. Get one, enjoy it anf shoot the crap out of it.

Pics of cut down 16" to 14.5

I am thinking of having my 16" M4 barrel cut down to 14.5. Can anyone post pics of what it looks like.

    Thanks

I'm thinking of having the exact same thing done, on my RRA 1x8 Stainless Middy.

Do you mind posting some specs of your rifle?

Specifically the Buffer Weight and ammunition you use?

I'm running a Carbine Buffer with Brown Bear (Practice Ammo) most of the time and was worried the shorter barrel, lighter buffer, and weaker ammo would conspire against me.

If anyone else has any input I'd appreciate it too.
