    Intermediate Gas System Specs

I've been lurking here for a good bit, mostly waiting until I had a good question to post. There is such a wealth of info here, so I haven't been able to come up with anything meaningful until now

I've been reading, mostly here, about the intermediate gas system and how it bridges the gap between the mid and rifle length systems. Now of course I have an SPR build underway and would really like to use this system! I'm wondering if any of you might have specs for gas port size, location, and of course any ideas on how to deal with the gas tube.

My initial ideas are to place the port 1.5" back (towards receiver ) and with a port size of about .090 to start. For gas tube, I have some ideas, but nothing solid.

    Any input is very welcome!!

    Thanks,

    Kevin J

Well, I am interested in what the normal size gas port would be for a mid-length. We have .063 for a carbine and .093 for a rifle. What is the standard for the mid-lengths? Thanks.

Many midlengths I've measured had gas ports of .086-.089"

I'm curious, is there any reason for the intermediate vs. the mid length? If you just want it, that is reason enough but is there any advantage?

The Intermediate system works very well on an 18" barrel... after the initial concept, John Noveske did a lot of work researching the best gas port size, I would suggest you contact him directly.

Thanks folks! I have an email out to him, but with everything going on I'm sure he's a pretty busy guy! Either way I'll post here if I get an additional info.

    Thanks,

how DO you acurately measure a gas port? just stick the ID prongs in and find the longest diameter?

I've used what I thought was the proper drill bit and put it in the port. If it fit, good, if not, it did pretty quickly. That was only for non or malfunctioning guns.
