The best way is to use a gauge pin or if you can find a bore mic that is small enough. But the drill method will narrow it down to a range.

Thank you sir!
Depends on the caliber, powder and bullet weights you are using. An intermediate length would work great on a 20" 6.8 because the pressure curve drops off quick due to the faster powders and larger bore space used in 6.8s.
On the 5.56 I have seen 3 gunners use rifle length on 18" barrels to soften the recoil but I am sure the intermediate length would work well also even with lower charges.
When building a rifle for myself I already have a good idea of the handload I want to use, one that has been accurate in many rifles so I start with a small port
1/16" and work up till I get reliable cycling, I never go over .938-3/32" on a mid or rifle length as accuracy goes out the window pretty quick.

The 6.8 is the best choice for hunting deer and hogs with an AR15.
i'm all about pics, though generally not just to show off. but since you twisted my arm, and all..
thus far:
the LMT's coming off to make room for an Aeroprecision/UBR/Geissele DMR
that is, by the way, a one-of-a-kind barrel... noveske has never made an SPR with a FSB before. i wanted an SPR, but i don't do flipup FSBs- so i had 'em turn and tap the barrel for a fixed.
havent decided on glass- most likely a leupy mark 4, like everyone else with an SPR.
looks nice. does standard height mount for glass peep over the fsb enough?
