    Training?

Who have you trained with on "emergency first aid"? Who do you recommend?

I'm not talking about professional training like EMT or military medic training, and I'm not talking about the yearly CPR/first aid that you take at your office either. I'm talking about training that focuses on gunshot wounds and the like that is held/taught privately.

I haven't trained with them, but I've seen good things online about

I've heard good things about LMS. But have not trained with them.

I have trained with and taught for GORGRP for a course that was co-located and in conjunction with GMRS. GMRS puts a lot of emphasis on remote medicine and being able to improvise and think your way thru problems, they are definitely not cook book medicine programs. My suggestion would be to contact GMRS or GORGRP and tell them what you are looking for, aside from the courses that are on the schedule, they are frequently running other off the books courses for NATO allies and various/sundry other folk. They might be able to place you in one of those, I think you will be challenged and enjoy the experience. The LTT labs that they run are 2nd to none.

Here's a link to my archive, this will give you somewhat of an idea.

I am interested in seeing how others teach tactical medicine as well.

All of my training is military medic or paramedic level certification courses, and 15years experience working either EMS or forward deployed operations.

I am a firm believer in taking a Wilderness EMS class if you can find one in your area. It is outside the boundaries on EMS Pre-hospital care with alot of improv in using what you have available in your immediate envronment for different types of emergencies. I am sure that a Community College, or University in your area offers such a course, at least out here in the Land of Manana they do.

http://www.gorgrp.com is the cousin to GMRS, Ltd. and teaches in the US, whereas GMRS only teaches OCONUS. GORGRP will have non-mil classes starting this fall.

Disclaimer: I am involved in both firms.

A Wilderness First Aid class is available in many areas fo the country and provides a great introduction and basic skill set! SOLO & NOLS do excellent jobs teaching these.

    Doc Gunn dtirnk@yahoo.com

His one day Tactical Treatment of Gunshot Wounds is excellent. It also includes a section on how handguns are puny and why it's so important for us to learn how to make our own shots as effective as possible.

My training group also has a medical coordinator/instructor who can teach just about anything you'd need or want to know. He's retired from the US Army (20 years 10th Special Forces Group) as a medic as well as other duties, plus he's an MD. Adaptive Consulting and Training. We're local to Indiana, so we probably have limited or no utility for someone who lives in Florida.

I took the LMS one a year ago. It was one day, seemed to be a living 'How-To' of the VOK mentioned above. I have no other medical training, other than baby first aid, but i felt like i learned alot in the class.

I've heard its a good course but $250 for a 1 day training event is VERY steep.

Actually for many it's not doable.
