I think I got just about the last CASV-EL out the door, a Foliage Green. Not for sale at any price any sane person would consider... looking for a second myself, because the girlfriend REALLY likes that build.

You might drop Vltor a ping and ask how many they'd need to do another run, assuming the tooling still exists.

    Why the resurgence?

It's hard to say. At first, I thought it was for the same reason that I'm trying to find one, which is to complete a clone correct build of a MK18 MOD 0 Navy EOD, but as I started looking at the builds people with the CASV-ELs are putting them on, they're not anywhere close to EOD builds. My guess is that they just like the unique look of them and now they know they have a unicorn so they don't want to let it go. It's probably more accurate that there is just limited supply.

    Good suggestion. I'll do that.

An updated CASV with MLOK slots would probably do well.

Hey Panda, Nick from VLTOR here. I spoke to you the other day. Your assumption is pretty much spot on. Anyone who is aware of the lack of supply either wants to keep their CASV due to it's unicorn status, or wants to sell it for a premium. The EOD cloners and super CASV fanboys (I include myself in that group, btw) are willing to pay the premium. So the price is trending upwards, quite quickly. The price has jumped up so quickly that there are some people who simply don't know it has happened, and they are letting their rails go for way under current market value.

Like most things in life, I learned that good things come to those who wait. Nick, just a few days after I spoke with you, I got flooded with offers from CASV-EL owners willing to part ways with their rails. Some knew what they had and priced accordingly, others let them go for probably less than what they paid for them when originally purchased. I even found someone who just scored box of BNIB EL's. I'll now be able to complete a couple EOD builds and sell off the rest.

No, but it might get the green CASV off of Mod Briefcase and put back on the market...

It's not pure EOD, but it was never meant to be a perfect clone, just using the EOD config as a springboard for adapting to my own needs. Nick, thought you might like a look at something in-progress your crew helped me build that has my girlfriend jealous because I can't build her one too...

Basically, the concept is the EOD Special modified for briefcase carry and CCW legality, with pistol light and laser to reduce weight/bulk and FBI-spec furniture for personal ergonomics, new muzzle devices for better flash management, and optics selected for the needs of a vision-impaired operator.

i am asking because i have a CASV-ELT on the way that i bought cheap...only problem is, i want it in black and i have plans on painting it.

i think i would do a much better job if i can remove the rail and just powder coat the hand guard.
Hey hey, it's Nick from VLTOR. It sounds like your question has already been answered, but I just wanted to chime in with some confirmation and extra info. The top rail is riveted in place with several steel rivets. It is not at all advisable to remove it. Getting it reinstalled would require the proper replacement rivets, a pneumatic press, and some specialized tooling to get in there and press everything back into place. I actually did this exact thing a while back because I wanted to tanodize an old CASV-EL I had sitting around, and getting it back together was quite the task, even with access to all of our equipment and hardware. If I didn't have access to all that stuff, I don't think it would have been possible to do. I've seen several people simply tape the rail off and paint them with varying degrees of success - some were done quite well.
