Does the squareness and its hard corners bother you at all?

    It looks perfect
Both sections (the stubby cap and the middle section extension) are sealed with an o-ring. It appears to be just as watertight as my TD's.

It's really pretty well beveled. I'm sitting here with it running my hand across it and don't "feel" the edges. The only straight edge is on the top end (above the rail) and I'm hard pressed to get my hand against it.

One thing I noticed, the Troy doesn't rely on a single lug or the screw itself to interface with the rail in the middle. It has two BIG lugs front and rear.

How many ways can you make a stick that connects to a rail?

That being said, they differ from the FUG in a few ways. Non-QD, two piece dovetail mount. Instead of three different caps, they just throw in a middle section that you can add if you want full length. Knurled aluminum vs polymer.

Not saying it's in any way "better" than a FUG, just another option.

I've run them all. I like the TD and FUG for QD use. The FUG and Troy offer multiple lengths. The Troy and TD offer a "slimmer" profile.

    Different strokes, I guess...

I'm talking about the cap design and the ribs.

They might as well have CNC'd a TD shorty grip, made it knurled, and called it a day.

    Gotcha.

It's funny, I was thinking there'd be more of a comparison between the FUG/Troy due to the multiple lengths than the Troy/TD due to design. But you're right - I just held the TD and Troy together and the appearances are strikingly similar.

The caps look nearly identical, but they wont work on one another due to thread pitch, and the Troy adds a slot on the bottom for a screwdriver.

I guess it fits somewhere in between the two giants - TD and FUG - offering some of the features of each but surrendering the QD capability you can get with either of them.

I don't use VFGs anyway, so it's a moot point to me.

Aluminum and polymer and steel, they all have their places, I'm not convinced that polymer VFGs need to be replaced with aluminum VFGs.

    Nor am I.

This is the first non-polymer VFG I've ever owned. The Black TD Stubbies in QD were sold out everywhere I looked, and the LaRue's were a little fatter than I wanted on this build, so I tried something new.

I'd go as far as to say that the aluminum is overkill and unnecessary, but it's at the same price point so I thought what the hell.

I'm definitely not replacing my TD's with the Troy unit, but I'd certainly consider it an option for future purchases if the need arises.

    Hell_Bent,

That Troy vertical grip looks great!

How much heavier than the stubby TD is the Troy in stubby mode?
