between winter and taking care of the baby, walks/runs have been put off. I've been dragging him along the past couple weeks though so he's getting in good shape again. 4 mile runs are not his favorite thing.
Yea he's great. Our first rescue (used to trained/retired GSDs) and he's my favorite by far. Thanks to M4C (mostly LL) our next will be a Mal though.

Mals can be great dogs, but they are beyond my experience. I do better with the Hound mentality. In fact, there is a Bloodhound Ridgeback cross at the rescue I volunteer with, that has me intrigued...

Mine is amazingly easy and a great family dog. Still, my next dog is a GSD. I just prefer their mentality, that is that of a Nazi in charge of home security![]()
My 2.5 yr old daughter can walk my Mal on a leash until they both see something they're interested in and both start running

My guy is great with the girls but he just doesn't ever stop! He never sleeps, always wants to play and is always all up in your face. He's no longer chewing furniture or causing damage. He is getting more and more protective of the house. His obedience and protective training (although very little) is doing great. His Right now we are working on his dog aggression. He hates other dogs but is now doing very well out in public but not at home in the yard. Here he is today at the Parkway where there is a lot of other dogs around. He is starting to just ignore other dogs instead of trying to eat them....

Interesting things about greyhounds, they often sleep with their eyes open and they are total couch potatoes.
The first is weird, but you get used to it, the second counter intuitive at first. It's track animal that can hit 45mph and bread to race, one would expect they'd be high energy dogs requiring a lot of exercise.
But (and this made me want one all the more as it appeals to the training/physiology geek in me) they are pure sprinters, so they race 1-2 times per week, and rest pretty much the entire time between races.
If she runs around the back yard a few loops, she's tired and want to get back in the house to go lie down. They can sleep 18 hours per day.
She does not even like taking long walks with me so far, but I'm getting her endurance up! I find funny. Here's the muscular uber lean running machine that will whine after 1/2 mile of walking.
A dog who hates aerobics!!! Now what could be cooler then that for a fitness/health guy like me who's never been a big fan of aerobics?
