Fitting an upper to a lower receiver?

I've seen many of articles and threads talking about too loose a receiver fit. Most of the ARs I done have been just fine but I've run across a issue with DPMS uppers and lowers twice in which with the new upper does not close down enough to allow the rear pin to be pushed in and allow alignment of the bolt carrier to the buffer tube.

Last time I just sanded the rear of the upper till it dropped in (it appears to be only at the rear where they make contact that the excessive material is) and got it smooth and used alumi-black to touch it up.

My question is simple, is this the norm with DPMS receivers? I've used Bushmaster, PWA and not had this problem. Just curious.

A little play in the upper and lower is normal.

    Don't worry about it.

I think maybe you misunderstood my problem. I'm asking if it is common for DPMS upper and lowers when new require having to remove material from the back of the receiver so they fit. It doesn't close.

It should require no modification at all.

there's another recent thread where a guy had some fit issues and took a caliper to his takedown pins. there's some inconsistencies in size, and if your pins are took big it'll be hard to get it closed/opened, too loose and you'll have excessive play. the numbers he gave for the ones he measured were .248 on the large end, and .2435 on the small end, but i'm sure pins probably vary even more than this, as this was just his sampling.

I changed out my Superior Arms lower for a Sabre Defense...same DPMS upper...while it was snug with the Superior lower, I have a decent amount of wobble with the Sabre Defence lower...quite noticable, and rather annoying...has anybody come up with a way to remove the wobble? Both lowers had been assembled with DPMS lower parts kits...

see my post above. only other option is something dumb like an accuwedge, which will come loose and seize up your blaster in the middle of a firefight.

I had thought about making some sort of buffer, like layering down electrical tape until it was snug...

ack.. that's not gonna work. if you just REALLY gotta have them snug, get a small rubber washer and stick it over your rear takedown lug on the upper.
