    Light Mount Question

I just bought a couple of the TLR-1 C4 lights thst OMB has on sale and plan to put one of them on my 6920. I'm as yet undecided how to mount it while using the stock handguards. I'm really leaning toward one of the front sight mounts as I really like how well it seems to tuck the little light close in to the sight tower.
I've done a lot of searching here and see where quite a few of you use similar mounts. My question is, is there any compelling reason NOT to use a front sight mount for a light as small and light as the TLR-1 ? Is anything about this mounting less than desirable from a "ruggedness" stand point ?
BTW, I don't kick in doors, and the only way I'll ever be an "Operator" is if I go to work for the phone company.
    Thanks,

I got one of these for mine.

It is snug but worked just fine. I had to file it a bit to get my side sling mount on though. I think I am going to get a new handguard so if you want it send me a PM and we can work something out.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. The thing I was really trying to find out was if there was anything really negative, other than just personal preference, about using one of the front sight side mounts such as the MI. It looks like a strong set up. I don't want to do anything to compromise the integrity of the front sight/ gas block.

Do you have any pictures of it mounted?

I have a G2 mounted in an Elzetta FSB mount and it works great. No drawbacks that I have encountered.

I use one of those MCTAR-04s that MW posted above. I secured it with blue locktite, although I'm not sure that will matter under a high-round-count firing schedule where the FSB (and in turn the mount) gets hot. One thing I like about the system is that the mounting screw is on the opposite side from what's shown in the picture. The result is that, if you mount your light on that side, the screw is captured and can't back out. Since the other side of the mount is locked into the FSB, it can't rotate out either. So even at the absolute worst-case scenario the screw can only back out a half a turn or so which means that the light might eventually wiggle a little but it ain't falling off.

I have NOT gotten to put this setup through a class yet and it looks like I won't get to for several months. It has been through a few matches and drills nights, and I probably have about 400-600 rounds on it.

Thanks. If that MI mount is good enough for you Rob, that's gonna be the best solution for me, I think. It looks like in the picture that the factory "side sling mount" will still work with this light mount and the small Steamlight. Is that actually the case, or does the side sling mount have to go?
In keeping with the "SHOOT THE GUN" philosophy, this carbine will have only a light, sling, and Aimpoint added. I'm an old guy and got over the "do-dad of the month" thing long ago.

I don't honestly know if the side-sling will still work. I'm trying to rind a couple of .625" side-sling adapters without much luck.
