I've actually had a few issues with the 3 ARC mags that I have. I've only attempted to put about 120 rounds through my LMT with them and have had 13 FTF issues. Every FTF issue was the same, the tip of the round would get caught at the top of the chamber and not feed. I know the ARC mags have very stiff springs (while loading them a round slipped out of my fingers and got launched a couple of feet ). What I is happening is that as the bolt comes forward to strip a round out of the magazine the stiff spring kicks the round out to forcefully and it gets stuck in the chamber pointed up at a roughly40 degree angle. I attempted to duplicate this at home with snap caps and it only happened once. After clearing it I thought it would be good to take a pic to post here but I haven't had it occur since (I've only been able to put the snap caps through about 30 times since). If it happens again I'll make sure I get a good photo to post here. I'm sure the problem will work itself out, but for now I'll only use the ARC mags for training (I got a good workout practicing malfunction clearance ). I've given 2 of my mags to friends to see if they have any issues with them as well, once I get their info I'll add it here as well.

I bought a Tactical Springs buffer/recoil spring from you (G&R) a while back, and I was pleased to find it had that huge extractor spring included with it.
As you already know, that extractor spring was HUGE, and MUCH larger/longer/thicker diameter coiled, then ANY other extractor spring on the market.
In fact, it's almost TOO big, and is SO DIFFICULT to install, even with pliers. It can be installed however.
It is also the ONLY TRUE 5 coil spring I have EVER seen, and I've bought and used them all. It actually has FIVE coils, unlike all the others I've purchased in the past.
I was just wondering if you Grant, or anyone else here had used those huge extractor springs, or if anyone knows why they are SO much bigger than all other extractor springs on the market? ALL the G&R tactical, BCM/etc extractor springs I've ever tried, have NOT been 5 coil springs, but rather 4, or maybe 4.5 coils...
(despite being advertised as "5 coil" springs)...???
I do not run that spring, but I do use the BCM 5 coil spring in my 10.5.

I just cannot figure out why EVERY BCM spring I have ever purchased has FOUR coils, and NOT 5, like people are always talking about.
The pic on BCM's (or maybe it was G&R Tactical site, under "BCM" spring), shows 5 coils, but ALL of the ones I've bought/received have only 4 coils.
Never have figured that one out.... ??

Maybe you are not counting them correctly??

How many coils do you see when you look at a standard extractor spring? 3?

O.K.,, i tried the ARC in a smith 15a today,, 30 rds. no problem. maybe i've got a junky-ass sabre. at any rate, i don't trust the ARC's,,i have a boat-load of p-mags, and will stick with them. one person's trash, is another's treasure. i have 3 of them left, will also make range mags of them and try them in my noveske, daniel defence, and bushmaster, before i make too harsh a judgement against them.

I would trust the ARC mags just as must as you would trust the PMAG.

We have had PMAG's that were bad, out of spec, etc. We have also had bad experiences with GI mags and HK mags.

Certain guns like certain mags. This is just the way it goes and I would not label one mag as "junk" just because it won't run in ONE gun.

i did'nt either,,that's why i gave one of the offenders to my shooting buddy, it ran fine thru his 6920. neither would cycle more than two shots in the sabre, ran fine today in the smith. still,,,i took the sabre out of my truck [truck gun] and put the smith back in, with a 20 rnd. p-mag. there is something going on, as p-mags, NHMTG, lancers, and SS c-products run fine. that was what my original post was about. as you say,,,no ARC's in the sabre.

Bullseye - what kind of problems were you having with the ARC mags and your Sabre?

An update on my experiences with the ARC mags....

This past Thurs/Fri I attended a 2-day carbine course by Paul Howe (CSAT). I ran the ARC's for a while on the first day of class, but they are a pain in the ass to unload. As was previously stated, the LULA doesnt work on them either loading or unloading them.

For the few hundred rounds I ran them for they functioned properly, and I loaned them out to a couple of other shooters to try out, and they function perfectly for them as well. No issues there.

So, to wrap it up....I would feel perfectly confident using these ARC mags as Duty/Go-To mags. But for training purposes, they are too much of a pain.

The Universal Mag Tool (UMT) seems to work for unloading them. It's not as tactical or sexy as the LULY thing, but it works.
