Question Best Powder for loading 223?

I plan on loading 55grn., in 223 and not if I plan on loading 62grn. down the road. So are my best choice for Powder and primers?

If your planning on using 14.5 or longer barrel I like to use H335. For 55 grain loads I use 25.5 grains. For 62 grain loads 25.2. Both of these are a shade over the hodgen manual but Ive loaded the 55's up to 26 grains without issue.

26 grains of H335 over my buds chrony right around 3k fps out of a 16inch bbl. Its not as hot as m193 but its a good duplicate for my needs.

If your an SBR, H4198 fits the bill. Its very fast and will over pressue quickly... but 20.5 grains with 55 fmjs work great. I dont know how fast they are though.

    Hope that helps ya.

Varget. Its temp stable, flexible (308, Grendel, 5.56, etc) and clean burning, pushes a wide variety of .224 bullets (40gr up to 77gr).

Because its a stick Its not exactly the best feeding powder out there, so measure carefully.

    Powder choices

Hogdon BL-C (2) is my favorite .223 Powder...I use it for everything from 45 grain bullets up to 60's with good results.

I have good results using Accurate 2230 with 62 gr FMJBT. Haven't tried it with 55's, but will soon as I recently bought a 1000.

I like Varget as it is an all weather powder, but it is slightly more difficult to meter correctly. Reloader 15 is also good and I use that for my heavier loads of 69+gr.

Winchester 748 for beautiful metering. 26.5 grs. for a 55 gr. bullet. I also use 26.5 grs. Varget for 55 gr. bullets. Velocity is just a few ft/sec. slower with the 748. RE15 is also good and has turned in great accuracy for .223 loads.
