Interesting responses....so far. My daughter in law was just assigned to this security unit in January, at a base I won't mention. She's an E-4 (Senior Airman) after 2 1/2 years into her enlistment and is waiting for her paperwork to be finanlized for her E-5 promotion. Not too bad for 22 years old.

She works base security, including perimeter, flight line, etc. The Air Force is using some contract private security firm for the front gates. She spends most of her time driving around with a radar gun catching speeders or people on the cell phone while driving. She indicated that a large number of the M4s in the armory have this kind of rail installed.

I don't see why they would go to the expense of installing those rails and covers, when the normal carbine handguards would be just fine, if nothing else will be added (front grip, etc.).

I never needed all the fancy stuff when I carried at Car-16 in my bird. And for that matter, I never carried the 1911 or M9; I carried a S&W .357 in a shoulder holster with speed loaders for extra ammo. Rank had it's bonues.

Impressive! Somebody trying to get by on the cheap! The only thing I hate more than a knee holster is one with the spare mag mounted to it!

Well at least they don't have the M68 tied on with p cord.

Throwing a retaile runder the bus for selling you a product that you should have researched before spending 100 bucks on is bad taste.

So what I cant type and you need to grow up a little as this isnt ARFCOM or any of the other crap forums and with that kind of behavior you will not last long on here.

You being a jackass and are throwing a company under the bus for selling a product that you dont like is BS. Cabelas sells some really good things and some not and no one forced you to buy anything.

If you had a problem with it take it back to Cabelas with your receipt and they will take it back per their policy.

Gotta agree with Shihan (on the base issue as well as the juvenile reaction), throwing Cabelas under the bus because you bought a garbage product is right up there with crying about "predatory lending".

I'm stuck with those rails, I had them move my light to a barrel mount so I could grip the gun properly. Its a way of paying lip service to giving the troops rails, when the guy in charge thinks you don't need them, w/o spending alot of money. Or, some people just don't know. And, since they hold up, sitting in a rack why she writes tickets, the IC thinks they made a the right choice.

I also wear ACU's and have no problem with them.

And I've seen plenty of Marines and former Marines with knee holsters.

I retired in 1998 (2W0 Munitions Systems), before the ABU came out. It's been in service for a while now, so maybe it's not the laughingstock it was in the beginning. It may be the first camoflage uniform in history whose primary purpose is not to conceal, but instead to provide "distinctiveness".

Once again, this thread is a lesson why being in the military or a cop does not make one a expert in firearms.
