It is because most people in uniform do not have any training or combat time either.

Excellent question. My shop doesn't actually do the acquisitions, we only advise (unless it is mission essential like replacements for broken M9 locking blocks. I can only surmise that they used a different fund to buy these instead of going through the channels to buy a unit in the system. Maybe they used year-end fall-out money, or didn't want to wait for these to arrive. I know there is a shortage on some items, like M203 retrofits for the M4; however, in this case there is no substitute for someone to save a few bucks.

End of year money and an IMPAC card...that makes some sense.

Hey! I often wear a Blackhawk Serpa thigh holster with my gear, but I can draw like lighting and wear it properly. The thigh holster is preferable if you're wearing body armor/tactical vest combo festooned with magazines and gear and impede a draw from a conventional hip holster. I admit there is a slight speed loss versus a decent hip holster, but if I'm armored up, the AR or shotgun is my primary anyways.

Just a thought for all you thigh-holster naysayers.

BTW, I agree, as a former Air Scout, I find the ABUs to be reprehensible!

Why do all the different services have to wear different kinds of camo? The nice thing about BDU's is that they were fairly universal. When I was stationed in Kunsan AB, Korea, there was a small Marine aviation contingent perpetually deployed there, and at least when we all wore BDU's they could go to our BX to buy shirts or trousers if they needed to or vice-versa if we were deployed to a another service's base.

The opinions expressed on this board are mine and mine alone. They do not represent any departments or organizations I may be a member of.

Problem with the Serpa is the trigger finger making it into the trigger guard on the draw stroke and a AD happens.

Ive never had any experience with the serpa, but i often wondered if that'd be a problem in a high speed, high adrenaline draw. Is it a real prob. with the whole push button thing? I mean i always looked at em on the shelf and pictured me shooting myself in the leg if i ever drew too fastBut I still kinda like the feel of a good leather holster over those plastic dew hikys

It’s not so much the thigh holsters but how people wear them. You should be able to initiate a shooting grip from your normal standing position, were as many individuals choose to carry them at least an entire hands length below this as “knee holster” implies. I really like them with a vest, but due to my short stature I literally have to move my junk to the left side before I put the leg strap on if I want it in a proper position.

Something distinguishable for each service. When deployed, we wore whatever worked best regardless of which service it "belonged" to.
