I emailed AFM to ask about their parts and this is the response that I received.

    William,

Yes, we only use current Military contract vendors. The vendors that manufacture our bolts and carriers have a larger customer, their biggest...FN. All of our parts are manufactured either by us, to MIL-STD, or by other current.Gov't vendors. The extractor spring and insert depends on the rifle, we use either A2, M4, or our proprietary heavy duty extractor spring with M4 or A2 insert, which is designed to eliminate failure to extract. Brownells buys these HD spring from us. We install the HD springs in every carbine we manufacture...semi auto only, burst, and full auto. It has eliminated this common problem entirely. Alot of assemblers use the D ring or O ring type BANDAID devices to help with a weak or poorly manufatured extractor spring. This is the wrong answer and they only last a while. Then you are right back where you started...failure to extract. We use them in 7.5" barreled machineguns all the way up to 20" rifles, suppressed or not. In any case, I hope this helps. Let me know if you require a sample spring for T&E.

Sorry for the delayed reply. I ordered my barrel before AFM started getting very widely known (I know, some would say they're still not, but they're more backed up than when I ordered), so it only took me about two weeks.

Now, as for the "accuracy" discussion here... 0.6 MOA, blah, blah, blah. If you can run over uneven terrain for a mile and a half, humping a pack, mags, the rifle, water, than take a kneeling shot at 200 yards and still tell me it's the barrel that's inaccurate rather than the shooter...? Seriously all, let's consider the application of the rifle a little more seriously. For an M4's purpose, any new barrel today should perform better than 90% of us- honestly, don't ya' think?

As far as I'm concerned, my AFM is an M.O.A. barrel- minute of @$$hole. A headshot at 100 and torso at 300 is easily within the capabilities of my rifle. The question is: in the event I need an M4 instead of a varmint, are shots like that within my capabilities?

Not trying to pick a fight- just suggesting we consider the big picture when it comes to discussions of M4 accuracy.

For my intents and purposes, I will not be humping a mile and a half over any terrain to take a kneeling shot. I wanted another AR-15 after having owned one a few years ago. I have my long distance shooter, a Rem 700 in .308, so a carbine was my choice instead of something tricked out for distance and accuracy. Do I still want accuracy? Well yeah, I'd like to make it as accurate as reasonably possible, if only for the reason that I can, but not because I think I'll actually need every ounce of accuracy, not at this present time anyway.

LOL. Fair enough! And thanks for putting up with my mini-rant. Just my way of saying I doubt I could tell if it was the rifle or me unless I was prone or at a bench... And the bench is right out for my application.

Although, when I think about it, I can definitely tell that I get a LOT tighter groups with my AFM barrel than with with my 'smithed Mini-14 and a hasty sling.

The longer barrelled, rifle gas system rifles (like a 20") are what's designed for accuracy... Am I right in this?

tests done show a 16" match barrel will shoot JUST as accurate as a 24" gun, what you lose is speed, and with that the bullets will go subsonic at a shorter range and when the bullet hits the trans sonic barrier, you will have major accuracy issues

also, the thicker the bbl the longer it takes to heat up, but that also meens it takes longer to cool down

this was shot with my el cheap O wilson m4 bbl.

I gotta say I'm skeptical about a $50 scope. Have you done a box test on it? Does it hold zero? The repeatability is really what's key, but a cheap scope to throw on there that actually works would be great.

ive only put 100 or rounds threw the scope yet, but i have cranked it around a few times and it went back to zero, so, so far so good

I didn't see a single item that was in stock. I wonder what their lead time is like right now?
