first you, beg, buy, borrow or steal (not recommended) a "Field Gage", place it in the chamber and hand push it BCG forward, IF the BCG does NOT lock up you are good to go, forget the "GO" and "NO GO" Gages as i have had NIB AR-15s lock up on "NO GO GAGES"......, OK ? got it now ?

Again, thanks for all the replies. Your answers have been very helpful. For my current situation I will just use the new bolt now that I am assured in the staking. If I ever have to use a used one in a pinch I will be more comfortable with it. I might ask CATM at work and see if they have a field gage.

I would have hoped that my local shop that I frequent often wouldn't have "pulled a fast one" on me. It is interesting how the bolt which does not have the "MP" marking looks exactly like the other one which is marked.

You can actually purchase a Field gage from Bushmaster. They are marked 5.56 FIELD right on them. Also a gentleman in Pennsylvania BillRicca.com. He has G.I Field gages for 30.00. They are the real deal and I bought 3 of them.

As for one of the LMT bolts having the MP mark and the other not, I would venture to say the dealer pulled a fast one.
Those both look like LMT bolts. They both have the relief cut ring below the lugs.

I am not up to speed on LMT. Do they MPI all of their bolts? If so, do they mark them all? Was it a faux pas?

I am not sure when they started doing all instead of batch testing.

Perhaps Grant could expand upon that.

I do believe that only LMT puts that particular stress relief cut on its products.

The First BCG in which the bolt does not have the "MP" markings was bought in a LMT upper last year in September. The BCG that does have the "MP" markings on the bolt was bought a week ago. Also the bolt that DOES have the "MP" marking has an "AH" marking on the bottom, where as the bolt that does NOT have the "MP" marking has an "AB" marking instead. Hope this info helps.
