The price is that high because of their military sales IIRC. They cannot sell a similar rifle for less than what they charge the .mil

I enjoyed putting rounds through one of the SCAR-Ls last year, but not enough to drop $4k on one

I can't think of any particular weapon that has and I wish my 401k would have held value like most of my firearms.

Here is what I was thinking. Some people may be paying $4K now because supply is low and demand is high. If.....and that's a big "if".....FNH is able to produce larger quantities of the civilian version in the near future, it is highly likely that the retail price will be in the $2K range for the exact same rifle because the supply will be much higher and simple economic laws will follow.
I don't know of any firearms that has been through this type of supply/demand scenario in the past.

Perhap we are looking at it right now with the prices that many are paying for a standard AR? Once production catches up with demand, we may see prices coming down again (perhaps a small percentage) depending on firearm legislation.

The MSRP is still in the $2xxx range though...unless I'm horribly mistaken.

Still, if I had the money I would buy it, just to have it

I don't think it will never go sub-2k. MSRP alone is like $2,400 or $2,800 (I've seen both so not sure which one is accurate)

I don't even know WHAT this gun is... let alone why it'd be priced at $4,000.

The only way a dealer can get the SCAR is to buy a package deal from their distributor. The dealer has to invest more than $10,000 in other FN goodies to get the SCAR.

Until a dealers can order the SCAR by itself, you will see these high prices.

Zanders has the Scar listed at $2,128.73.

Wow, good catch K-9! The dealer where I saw the $4500 SCAR had LOTs of FNPs and those 5.7mm FN pistols too.
