New AR with pics and specs

Just finished this one up yesterday. I've had the rifle for over a year but I have been deciding exactly what I wanted to do while putting rounds downrange to make sure it was up to par before spending money on accessories. It's going to be my new primary rifle so I wanted it to be high quality and durable. I also wanted all the modern advantages while keeping it light and handy like an AR carbine should be.

    The specs:

CMMG A3 midlength upper-16" govt profile 4150 chrome lined 1/7 barrel - from Aim
YHM Phantom 5C2 flash suppressor - from Denny's Guns
A.R.M.S #40 flip up BUIS - from Bravo Co.
    EOTech 516 - from Brightflashlights
Daniel Defense Omega 9.0 - from Brightflashights
    Surefire X300 w/XT-07 switch - from Brightflashlights
RRA complete lower with Hogue RRA grip
CMT milspec M4 stock assembly - from Bravo Co
    Boonie Packer 2P-TQA sling

    The pics:

I'm still debating on wheter or not to use the KAC VFG on this gun. I like the improved handling provided by the VFG, but I also kind of like the simplicity of the way it is now.

I do need to figure out a way to store some extra CR123As on the gun. The X300 and the 516 both use them so it would be nice to have some spares. I don't care for the SOPMOD/Vltor type stocks so I guess that pretty much leaves me with a PG or VFG with storage.

Very nice! How do you like the EOtech 516? Is that a Hogue grip? You may want to consider a different grip with storage for the batteries. I have the Magpul MOE. I would agree with your thoughts about a VFG. I have held off on getting a rail for my LE6920 because I don't think I would use it for anything but a light mount. I'm just not real fond of the VFG and I like the standard handgaurds.

Those are the dummy rounds I use for practicing mag changes at home.

I store all my AR's with the hammers released and loaded magazines inserted. It's not possible to move the selector to SAFE in this configuration.

my apologies, I've always been taught to keep it on Safe when not shooting.

Is that because of the AR design for some reason? Because if my booger hook ain't on the bang switch, I'm not overly worried about it... I've never had a firearm fire while it was laying on the ground, posing for a picture or just laying about in my home somewheres.

if you live alone and dont have homies coming over and ****ing with your shit, i suppose that's fine.. personally, i think it's better to train yourself right and leave it on safe.

i flip to safe the moment i'm done firing, and as soon as i'm ready to fire i flip back. it's just like driving a stick- muscle memory.

ETA: you need to consider other variables. it's not about whether you're disciplined enough to keep your finger off the trig- other things can hit the trig, drops are more likely to induce discharge when on fire, etc..

I'm not saying I don't use my safeties... I carry a 1911 every day and unless I'm doing a press check or actually firing, the safety is on... I'm just saying that I've never been so paranoid about it that I would either retake a picture or piss on someone's picture thread over it. And also, I honestly don't know AR's that well and didn't know if some inherent design element made them any "less safe" when handled that way.

That's a very functional looking shooter.

How's it do at the range?

Have you considered the MIAD grip with the battery insert for your battery problem?

You can configure it very much like the profile of the grip you have.
