    .
that's totally untrue- the ATF spells out that NFA items can be used by anyone so long as the registered person is present. that's how PMCs train their guys on FA stateside, thats how ranges can run public machinegun shoots, etc. your lawyer needs to study up quite a bit.

Well I've been party to many illegal transfers if that's the standard.

My dealer even let my hold my silencers before the papers were done. Those cans weren't registered for "commercial use" I'll report them too when I turn myself in today after work.

Club fed and BUBBA.... here I come!!

a 07 FFL/ 02 SOT licensed gunsmith can do your engraving or any repair work on your title 2 item, but if they are out of state, than you need ATF approval to send to them, if it got lost in the mail, than kiss your $200 bye bye, plus 4-5 months of your time, is a lot easier to do your engraving before it become a title 2 weapon.
I'm a pretty strict and cautious interpreter of the NFA and related regs, but I disagree with all of the above. The NFA regulates transfers, not so much possession. Possession is generally a matter of state law, with most states saying that you're allowed to possess it as long as the transfer is properly made to you via the NFA Branch.

The NFA item is still under your possession and control if you are allowing someone else to use it under your supervision and in your presence. What you are not allowed to do is "transfer" the item to the other person - meaning give it to them with the intent that it come under their exclusive control and possession - unless you actually have that transfer approved and pay the tax. In other words, don't let someone borrow your NFA items (without you there at all times).

The NFA and associated ATF guidelines are equally clear that a temporary transfer to a gunsmith is not a "transfer" and does not require any paperwork, though they "recommend" that you have a tax-free Form 5 approved so there is no confusion.

Squished: I am with you on the rail. I had a LaRue on my 7.5" and found the slim profile on such a short boomstick and the fact that the LaRue barrel nut prevented me from mounting my optic farther forward was a waste. I ended up putting it on one of my 16" AR's and went with the YHM diamond handguard. I also like the looks of the ventilated end cap and the YHM diamond is actually lighter than the LaRue. Yes the profile is much wider but it fits the look quite nicely.

Looks great! I almost went with the diamond but decided to go with the full covering one to protect the barrel and gas tube better. I really like the YHM with the barrel end nut.

Squished: I didn't know they made a shorter YHM Diamond. My barrel length is 7.5" and the handguard completely covers the gas block and gas tube.

ETA: Are you talking about the diamond shapped vents being large enugh to expose the gas block and tube?

Yes, the vent holes are larger than the regular rail. The regular rail just has thin slits in it.
