In my opinion it wasn't an equipment downgrade. The 7.0 is what works for me.

You're missing the point - the value in the DD gun comes in how it is equipped out of the box. You could have bought a different upper and outfitted it the way you wanted for cheaper. You could have kept your RR and outfitted it the way you wanted. Like I said, it's your money but I don't understand your rationale.

My rational is that I spent $125 after selling the RRA to get a DDM4 the way I wanted it with the factory features I wanted that the RRA didn't have: 1:7 twist, chrome barrel, etc.
I'm more than happy to learn why everyone should have a 12.0 on their rifle. I thought the beauty of the M4 is that it can be customized for the individual user. I haven't seen a post that has convinced me (or even tried to convince me based on usable features) that a 12.0 is better for everyone in every situation.
I'm not knocking the 12.0, it just doesn't suite MY needs. I watched the video at ddm4.com and I know that an X300 can be mounted forward of the front sight in the 12:00 position and that some like to grip the weapon farther out; neither of these suite me.
Feel free to fire away at my decision, but if you're going to disagree then educate me on where I went wrong. I don't have many posts on this site because I choose to read what those more knowledgeable than I write. I'm hear to learn...
Besides the fact that it might not look good to you compared to a 7" Omega, it offers the user many options. In the world of the fighting gun and in life in general, options are more than your friend.
You spent more to have less. This doesn't compute to me.
I'm not making fun of you I'm just trying to understand the illogical choice that you've made that's all. Sounds like your choice was because of looks which is fine some people care much more about looks that at actual performance. If you want a M4 which looks more like a military M4 then a 7" would suit you better.

Guys, there are tons of people that do not like the FSP rail. We all know that a standard F FSB is preferred by many on a fighting system. Some people like low profile gas blocks with the extended rail, and others like the FSB with the 7" rail.
I for one don't like the FSP rail. I prefer my systems with low profile gas blocks and extended rails. I like being able to flip my irons down nd out of the way. I think he still got a good deal. The DD system is a good deal with or without the X rail, IMO. Just reading posts around the net about the DD system, I believe they would sale way more if they choose a different rail system. It puzzled me that they would use their FSP style in the first place. Outside of the piston systems, I haven't seen all that many FSP rails being used. Of corse this is only my observation, and don't mean everyone agrees with it.

It is probably just a matter of what people are used too. The 12" is new so it looks odd to folks who had gotten used to the traditional set up. For ME the extra rail space to put a light on seems like something that should have been standard all along and I like the look. As do all the folks who have handled my carbine in person. To each his own..........
The more I look at it, I guess I can see where it would grow on me.
BTW: Bravo Co has the DD M4 Uppers in stock.

So far I'm extremely happy with the upgrade. I'm going to put more rounds through it before I decide but at this point I'm not loving the fixed rear BUIS. It may get replaced with a flip-up rear in the near future.
