    if so, wonder how off-milspec it's gonna be.

    Wild guess:

    It'll be an AR clone available only in .223 (not 5.56) that does not accept non-Ruger upper receivers, buttstocks, or fire control parts.

    That or a 1911 clone with similar proprietary parts.
