So it says the buffer and spring are Mil-Spec, but nothing about the receiver extension (unless I missed it somewhere else).

    That doesn't matter.

The stock is still made from that cheap ass plastic like all other aftermarket AR15s.

I highly doubt the buffer tube is made to spec with SFL.

It is just another aftermarket stock with a mil spec diameter tube but nothing else is spec including the construction of the tube.

    8lbs unloaded, no mag.

kind of glad to see another mainstream company put out an AR...even if it does have a piston upper

i sure as hell wont buy one, but its probably good for everyone. now that S&W and Ruger have a stake in the EBR market they might try to protect if for a change.

hopefully no recalls on this one.

So, did they design their own piston mechanism or license some else's?

A piston AR? What will they think of next?

also i'm wondering what is a "two-stage piston design"?

that's a new one on me.

I am not at all on the piston band wagon as it has not been proven to me. It may be possible to run your car 100k miles without an oil change too but that does not mean I am willing to try it or that it is a good idea. But, when the Troy parts and all are added up the price is not too extreme compared to many piston guns. Ruger has always had over inflated MSRPs. A $1950 Red Label can be had for $1340. If the same mark up hold true for the SR556, they will sell a bunch of them for 13-1400. And nearly every prison in the country currently uses very old Mini 14s and are entrenched in the Ruger brand. There could be some contract purchases coming their way. I remember when NYPD ESU was using Mini 14s up until a few years ago.

I will hold out and wait to see how these work out. No use slamming Ruger on it yet. Hell maybe they are trying to do it different than they did decades ago with the AC556. It failed military trials and selection so they flooded the market with the Mini 14. They may be thinking of a future military piston contract and want to shake it out first. Gunblast reports sub moa with the SR556.

At any rate, politically, it is good for all of us. But my Colts still serve me well.

Guess I'll sit tight and wait for the new Ruger 1911 with external extractor and light rail.

Am I the only one here that likes it?

I agree with Tim. Remington and Ruger producing AR's can only help.
