If Ruger makes just the upper available for a decent price, I'd consider giving one a whirl. I am not as hung up on names when it comes to AR's as some of the others here. My first issued rifle was a Colt, the second was made by G.M. The third through sixth were made by F.N., and then I bought a Bushmaster. Now I have a Colt again. I never saw any kind of difference in the functionality or reliability between any of them, although the first Colt did have the worst finish of them all but then a lot has happened with finishes since the '70's.

I think it's great that Ruger is bringing this out. The more makers turning out AR's the better in my opinion. It should help to drive up quality and drive down prices. The fact that it has a 1/9 barrel instead of a 1/7 is worth noting but hardly a deal breaker for me. I would expect it to be well made and the street price to be very competitive.

WHile discussing this with a few folks this weekend, I have come to this conclusion.
If they can get them on the shelves; have no recalls, support the proper game gunners, they will move a metric shitload of these.

    Why?
Name recognition. For real gun folks the RUger name is a caution sign to do your due dilligence before buying, but for many it means you have a great gun.

Price point. I have heard that dealer will be between $1400-$1500 so you will see them shelfed about $1850 -$1900 with the dealer having room to wiggle a little.
LWRC and HK are miles above this, the other manufactures that are in the same price range as a RUger are complete unknowns to the average gun buyer. Which is why I listed name recognition first.

Good feature list/Marketing knowhow. Look at their ad copy they will have the "Memorize the spec, even if I have no idea of what it means or applies to" folks will have a good time. Guerilla marketing.

On a personal spiteful note: I hope they sell so damned many of these that when you think of Ruger you think of AR's, just to make the Quisling glob of worm food Bill Ruger spin even faster.

    Where did you hear this?

Are they close to actually shipping stock out to their dealers?

The price above is pretty close to the quote I was given by a major distributor. However, I was told not to expect them until July or August...for whatever that's worth.

I was thinking ADC. Everything looks eerily similar to one of Arnold's rifles.

    Did Arnold get patents?

If not, he may be protected by prior-art.
My brother saw Deliverance and bought a Bow. I saw Deliverance and bought an AR-15.

At the NRA convention, the Ruger folks told me that the on-sale date is 1 June.
I hope so...too many times mfrs can't live up to their release commitments for whatever reason.
