Based on the pics I see they aren't staking the castle nut. I also have not been contacted by Ruger as of yet in regards to the questions I posed. I was going to respond to the email they sent but it's a No Reply email.

our 1st Ruger SR556 came in yesterday

This one my boss gave me to T&E. Wow the guy on SIGforum got it for a steal for $1499

With our standard mark up we will retail them for $1695.00

    Somethings about the rifle:
1x9 twist (they're supposed to offer them in 1x7 in the future)
    M4 ramps
Mini-14 flash hider which has a crush washer so I'm guessing it's 1/2x28TPI and replaceable (I'll attempt this after some initial shooting)
adjustable gas regular (0 is off, 1-3 setting with 1 being the smallest)
proprietary bolt (but uses standard AR15 cam pins, firing pins, extractors and ejectors)
3.0oz standard CAR buffer and standard CAR spring
midlength gas system or close to it (very long gas block which is pinned to the barrel)
mil-spec receiver extension (end plate not staked into the castle nut)

I don't know why they used a proprietary bolt. The stuff that's replaceable on the bolt are standard parts. The carrier is 9.0oz and is a non-shrouded type and semi-auto. I'll be testing the effectiveness of the adjustable gas system with some Radway Green ammo I have. This stuff runs in my Colt/PWS gun just fine and on setting 3 on this Ruger is should work. Ruger seems to have addressed the carrier tilt issue by making the back of the carrier slightly oversize and really beveling the rearmost edge of it. The surface of the entire carrier is very smooth, it appears to be hard-chrome after a real high polish. After some initial shooting I'll try my AAC M4-2000 Mod 07 on it with a Blackout mount. I'd like to try the new M4-2000 muzzle brake if they'll send me one.

Here's some pics. I'll be testing it using my Trijicon TA01 in a LaRue RCO mount.

Thanks for the write up and pics. I wonder why they did not make the carrier shrouded??

i think the masses will grab them up,, because they have "RUGER" stamped on them. i know plenty of folks that think like that. as stated,,time will tell.

Meh. I was excited when these were first announced but I am tempering my enthusiasm at this point. Non Standard bolt Carriers, no staking, a few other small things like the FH. This may fall into the "Nice but I can build better for less" category.

The LCP and the SR9 were recalled. Am I missing any? That is two guns out of a very large variety of ruger weapons. I am being serious, with no sarcasm intended. Also, please do point out these major issues. Im sure people would like to know. You are not bound by contract with ruger too, are you? Thanks

    I have four words for the "Colt can do no wrong" crowd;

    Colt All American 2000

Living proof that that not everything that Eugene Stoner and Colt did together was gold.

    ruger issues you bet"""""

aside form the technical issues which Grant is more qualified to speak to lets look at how they have screwed us over the years

    1. in 1994, bill ruger testified to ban hi cap mags and not guns. so they banned both. they never thought of mags till he went to the hill and brought it up. any one pay 50.00 for a glock mag in 1999 ??????

    2. they wont sell parts to dealers so u have to send the guns to them and they can screw us again.

    3. dont sell hi caps to civilians as we are SCUM to them.

some other things will come back to me but its late. I WILL NEVER OWN A RUGER AGAIN.

never patronize the people who gave u a mags ban in 1994. and yes i was in Washington to testify right behind him and nearly fell out of the chair when CHUCKIE SCHUMERSTEIN praised him as a true American.

always remember - never forget (pat rogers)

    1. Bill Ruger is dead.
    2. They do depending on what it is, they won't say sell you an 10/22T barrel.
    3. They do, we have factory Ruger 20 round Mini-14 mags in stock as well as full 17 round capacity SR9 mags, full 15 round P89, P95 mags.

And if you own a registered full auto AC-556 on a Form 4 and need it repaired, Ruger will repair it free.
