Just picked up a a trijicon reflex

I was looking for a decent optic for my M&P 15T and saw a Trijicon RX06 with mount for $370. Liked the triangle reticle and tested for washout outside the store (it was very bright and sunny today) with the owners permission. Long of it is that I found what finally seems to fit my needs. I tried EoTech and AimPoint before along with the Burris DMS-1 scope and none seemed to fit the the bill for me. The red dots always were too fuzzy and indistinct when I tried using them, not so with the RX06. The mount has it set for a nice low profile and an absolute co-witness with my BUIS. Can't wait to zero it and put it through it's paces. Got a course with Ken Hackathorn coming up so hopefully it will stand up to the challenge.

Any input on this sights weaknesses and strengths appreciated.

Asking for criticism of an item you just bought and believe fits your needs is a sure-fire way to get upset and frustrated. It sounds more like you are trying to justify your purchase and will probably respond poorly to anything but agreement.

I have used the Trijicon Reflex sights, and have found them far below the performance level of Aimpoints and even EoTechs. The issue with optics and wash-out are not usually seen in sterile range conditions, but rather in sitautions where the shooter is in a dark area with a semi-lit target with realistic clothing colors and texture. There are other times that I do like the reflex, such as on an open-ground gund that has an IR device for night use, such as with a vehicle mounted machinegun.

Actually yours is the kind of post I am looking for. I want to know the limitations and what to look out for. I am pretty much set on keeping this unit as it seems to have most of the features I like and the reticle is sharper and clearer then on the red dots I have tried. No optic is perfect for everyone. I prefer iron sights but an optic tends to get you on target faster in many situations. Thanks for your opinion.

I just picked up a used Reflex sight which I believe it's the 4.3MOA dot model. (No box or papers, just sight, mount and dust cover.) So far, I'm pretty happy with it, though I haven't actually fired my gun with it yet. I was leaning towards an Eotech but I found an offer I couldn't pass up.

I realize it has some shortcomings but for the time being it beats the BSA red dot I was going to use. I've been thinking of an ACOG recently but I don't have that kind of money (yet) to mount to my range toy.

Hey, if I don't like it, I can always sell or trade it.

The Reflex sights were state of the art 15-20yrs ago. I used one (amber) on an 870 slug gun for a while in the mid-90s. I liked it on cloudy days or while walking in the shade. However, it washed out in bright sunlight and was too bright in very low light. I replaced it with a (then new) Aimpoint 7000 and never looked back.

I do feel the Reflex is nearing obsolescence considering the other choices available in 1x optics on the market. Other than the availability of a chevron reticle, I don't see where the Reflex offers any advantages over an Aimpoint/EoTech, etc...especially considering the price point. I'd take a used Aimpoint over a new Reflex without hesitation.

Of course, none of this matters if you're happy with the optic and it meets your needs. In the end, the user's satisfaction is all that matters.

So far it works fine for me. I understand about the washout now, tested it with tactical light against white background. The manual says the polarizing filter that came with the sight can be used counter this, will see. For the time being I am not likely to use it, am on restricted duty due to medical problem for next 6 months. No shooting or any such activity for 6 months, BAH.

The one thing I like about reflex sights is I dont get the astigmatism star effect.

If you must have a Reflex then check out the new RX30. Huge FOV through the 42mm objective, brighter tritium & improved fiber optics that make washout much more difficult to achieve.

In your first post you mentioned a course coming up...
When did you go on restricted duty?
Did you make it to the course?
Did the sight work for you?

Here's what I did with mine today. I sighted it in at 50yds (HAD to leave the center shot) and then took it out to 100yds (all the rest.)

As you can see, there are a couple of fliers and I was shooting a little high and to the left. I tweaked the sight one click down and one click right. I'll take it out again this weekend or next week and see if my adjustments are for the better. Hopefully we'll get some better weather too! I'm getting tired of the rain and wind.
