MIM parts can be made to function similar to billet parts, but will never match forged parts for durability.
The most critical measurement to be taken in producing MIM parts is weight. Sadly, this is often overlooked. Dimensional integrity and cosmetics are usually the only criteria. Weight will disclose a porous part, not to mention voids.
It's pretty simple to find a bad part, but molding is a skill, and good molding techs are tough to find. Production managers look at parts per hour, and if the customer doesn't specify to meet a weight tolerance, pretty parts, that are dimensionally correct are good. If these fail, the molding house could care less.
Blame it on part design, engineering, the moldmaker, or anyone else.
