I dont....the extractors I have look just like the one pictured above.I'd take some pictures but I have a hard time getting my computer to accept 35mm film.;-) Yeah Im very low tech/old school.
As far as pictures of MIM parts, there are a few pictures posted on this site of LMT gas keys with what looks like MIM marks, and some pictures of LMT's new charging handles with MIM marks on the new latches.Other than that,Ive seen no further detail.

Showed the extractors to a neighbor tonight, who is a machinist that is involved in manufacturing similar items. He basically said the same thing as Mark15 did about the markings/dents Im seeing in the extractors. He said the parts were probably a bit too hot and still maleable, which is why the circle like dent is in the extractor. He pointed out several places that show they were machined from a forging.Clearly not a MIM or cast part in his opinion.
He further added that the lack of distinct tool marks on these extractors was more than likely the result of a finer finish requirement of the customer and being shot peened before heat treatment. All of which he could see evidence of on the extractors.Basically told me that the Armalite extractors look to be very well made and of high quality.
He further added that I'd be better off just using the parts and less time nit picking.Which is true.
So I apologize to Armalite for the noise, and I will shutup.

That's a mark from a clamp tip used to hold the part for one of the machining operations..... my opinion.
Good info guys, thanks. So far, I've only found the unusual mark on my Armalite extractors.
Hardness tests are done with a pointed or spherical tool. This is flat, and is how an ejector pin mark would look.
Ned, I haven't seen fixturing with a round hold down like that, ever. To be honest though, your guess is as good as any I can come up with.

There have been extractors out for ARs for years that are said to be cast. The ones I have have a slightly raised small circle on them. Never really had problems with them except they are a pain to put springs in because the spring pocket is a little small.
I am not suprised more of them do not break off as much stuff as is being put in and under them to increase the tension.
Can you just put one in a vice and break it in half with a hammer
Then look at the fracture and see if its powered metal.
I am just asking please don't do it unless you just got to see if it is![]()
All you who are worried about the charging handle being a steel MIM part need to remember the original is cut from a piece of sheet aluminum.
My brother saw Deliverance and bought a Bow. I saw Deliverance and bought an AR-15.
uh...yeah kinda but yours aint as pretty.Basically the same locations but the small circular areas on my extractors are somewhat deeper and concave. But the underside flats surrounding the circular marks on mine look to have been brushed smooth and have no defining edges. In fact the entire extractor is very smooth with no sharp edges from what Im told is the result of being shot peened.
The slot for the claw and the bridge for the extractor pin have very light machine marks visible as does the sides, which is what prompted my machinist neighbor to comment on my MIM OCD..
